How much does a goldsmith earn?

Job and everyday work
A goldsmith works mainly in the workshop: designing, sawing, filing, soldering, casting and polishing. Everyday work includes advising customers on sizes and materials, precise handwork under a loupe, and caring for tools, precious metals and finished pieces.
- Design jewellery and make it in gold, silver and platinum from sketches or CAD models.
- Saw, file, solder, cast, polish and set gemstones; check measurements and fit.
- Carry out repairs, resizing and restoration; document material use and precious-metal stock.
- Advise customers on design, alloy, stone quality and care; agree quotes and deadlines.
- Maintain tools, machines and safety equipment; handle the workplace and hazardous substances properly.
- Work with jewellers, engravers and suppliers; quality-check pieces before delivery.
